Year 5 Explore Nature at Wakehurst!
Our Year 5 pupils had an unforgettable day out recently with a visit to the beautiful Wakehurst, Kew’s wild botanic garden in Sussex.
Set amongst acres of stunning landscapes, woodlands, and gardens, Wakehurst provided the perfect backdrop for a day of discovery, exploration, and hands-on learning. The children took part in a range of activities designed to deepen their understanding of the natural world, including plant life, habitats, and conservation.
From wandering through the incredible gardens to exploring the seed bank and learning about global efforts to protect biodiversity, the trip was packed with fascinating facts and memorable moments. The children were especially captivated by the vast variety of trees and plant species – many of which they had never seen before!
One highlight was the chance to connect what they’ve been learning in science and geography to real-world examples in nature. The knowledgeable staff at Wakehurst made sure the day was interactive and engaging, sparking lots of thoughtful questions and curiosity.
As always, our Year 5 pupils represented the school beautifully – showing enthusiasm, respect for the environment, and excellent behaviour throughout the day. They returned to school buzzing with excitement and full of new knowledge to share with their classmates.
A huge thank you to the staff and volunteers at Wakehurst for making us feel so welcome, and to the Year 5 team for organising such a brilliant learning experience.
