Inclusion and Safety

At The Mill, we are committed to ensuring that all children can access our Personal Development opportunities safely, confidently, and without barriers. Inclusion and safeguarding are central to our approach, ensuring every pupil can grow, explore, and thrive.

Inclusion

  • Accessible to all: Our programmes, from Forest School to Bike Shed, music, sports, Room 13, and Millers Radio, are designed to be inclusive. We provide additional support where needed to ensure every child can participate fully.

  • Targeted support: NEST, ACE, and small group sessions ensure pupils who need extra emotional, social, or academic support are fully included.

  • Equal opportunity: Financial support is provided for clubs, enrichment activities, trips, and specialist programmes to ensure no child misses out due to cost.

  • Tailored approaches: Activities are adapted to meet the needs of children with SEN, disabilities, or additional challenges, so that everyone can engage meaningfully.

Safety

  • All activities are risk-assessed and monitored to maintain a safe environment.

  • Staff leading Personal Development programmes are trained in safeguarding, first aid, and relevant specialist areas (e.g., Forest School, cycling, music, sports).

  • Pupil safety and wellbeing are prioritised at all times, including during off-site visits, outdoor learning, and leadership roles.

  • We promote personal responsibility, risk awareness, and resilience, helping children learn to make safe and positive choices.

Impact

By embedding inclusion and safety into everything we do, children at The Mill are able to:

  • Access a broad range of enriching experiences without barriers

  • Develop independence and resilience in a secure environment

  • Participate confidently in leadership, creative, practical, and physical opportunities

  • Grow academically, socially, emotionally, and physically, knowing they are supported
